The distribution of value within the value chain is unbalanced in Africa and local producers get lower prices for cocoa bean, coffee bean and other products.
This situation is untenable for the African producer, who produces quality coffee, but who receives the lowest prices of all producers, globally.
For Arabica, the average producer price in Africa is 70.4 cents per pound but 96.5 cents for Latin America and 110.1 cents for India. For Robusta, the average price in Africa is 58.4 cents per pound compared to 78.5 cents in Latin America and 67.4 cents in India.
