The dehydrated alfalfa production in Spain for the 2022/23 campaign could decrease by 25% compared to last year. The 2022/23 alfalfa harvest is predicted to be around 1,150,000MT which is 300,000MT less than the 2021/22 campaign. The planted area of dehydrated alfalfa has decreased by about 20% for this season for two reasons. Firstly, the drought affects the majority of autonomous communities where fodder is produced, and secondly, the appearance of worm pests in the fourth cut of alfalfa negatively affected production. Of the total alfalfa crop processed in Spain so far this season, 80% consists of dehydrated alfalfa (both in bullet and granulated form), 13% to other forages (fescue, ray grass and vetches) and 7% to fodder oats.
