Alberta beekeepers are experiencing a tough year for their honey production due to a combination of poor weather and COVID. Poor winter weather across Prairies last year has resulted in an average loss of 30% of hives, which is much higher than the typical loss of 15 -20%. In addition, COVID has made it difficult for beekeepers to bring in the skilled temporary foreign labor needed to harvest honey.
