In Morocco, the rainfall deficit, as well as the specter of drought, threaten groundwater, agriculture, pasture, and livestock. The cereal sector is preparing for another dismal harvest because one of the worst droughts in recent decades has passed. Although it is too early to predict how much crops will be affected, production is likely to decrease from the previous year. Thus, the kingdom will continue to resort to imports for its cereal and pulse needs. Imports of wheat from Morocco are already expected to increase by 29% reaching 48 million tonnes this season, the second-highest on record after the severe consequences drought had caused the previous crop.
