From 2015 to 2020 Serbia is receiving around 200 million US dollar funding from the EU specifically for agricultural and rural development of the country. The aim of the program is to improve the agricultural sector and increase its competitivity in Europe. Most of the agricultural land is in the northern part of the country and about 90% of it is private land. Internal migration also causes a problem in the country, because of the significantly lower living standards in rural areas people are increasingly moving to big cities, this leaves a lot of Serbian villages desolated.
