The wild salmon catches in Alaska, US, for 2023 are expected to bring some changes compared to the previous year. Sockeye salmon production is forecast to decrease by 31% YoY, primarily due to the anticipated decline in the Bristol Bay harvest following the record-breaking catch in 2022. On the other hand, the global pink salmon forecast for 2023 predicts a larger harvest, surpassing the usual standards of an odd-numbered year. Within Alaska, the pink salmon harvest is projected to be 6% higher than the average of the two previous odd cycles.

Both Alaska and Russia are expecting chum salmon harvests in 2023 that align with the five-year average, with approximately 40M fish per season. In 2022, the Alaska coho salmon harvest was the smallest in the last three decades, falling short of the season's forecast. The 2023 forecast of 17M pounds for coho salmon represents a substantial increase from 2022, yet it still remains a relatively small harvest compared to historical standards.
