In Q1-24, Andalusia's fishing industry, particularly in processed foods like fish meal, fish oil, canned fish, mollusks, and crustaceans, demonstrated strong performance in the international market. The region exported 14,630 metric tons (mt) of fish products worth USD 143.92 million, a 2.4% year-on-year (YoY) increase and a 71.6% rise since 2016. Cádiz led exports with 8,700 mt valued at USD 86.20 million. Italy was the primary destination for Andalusian fish products during that period, accounting for USD 47.61 million (33.1% of the total). Portugal and the United States (US) followed, with exports worth USD 37.50 million (26%) and USD 11.41 million (8%) respectively. As Andalusia continues to expand its international reach, the fishing sector is poised for sustained growth, benefiting the local economy and the broader market.
