During week 23 and 24, asparagus prices at the Ceagesp market in Brazil have been sluggish due to the idle demand, and importers faced some challenges selling the available supply. However, in week 25, the asparagus prices have gone up to BRL 300/ 5 kg box due to increased demand, causing sales to rise. The cold weather in Brazil has boosted the consumption of soups, in which asparagus is commonly used. The shortage of Peruvian asparagus also contributed to the price increase. Peru, which experienced a challenging harvest due to cold weather, is a major asparagus supplier in Brazil, and the decreased supply of the preferred jumbo and XL calibers have pushed prices up.
