Australia wants to turn seafood waste into edible protein

Researchers from South Australia's Flinders University will trial three new methods to extract the protein from crayfish shells, fish skin and beached seaweed, which are often considered waste products. The test methods would include microwave technology, ultrasound, and utilizing a fluid processing device, all of these would be used to breakdown cell structures and to release the protein.
