Australia's southern bluefin tuna industry is approximately worth USD $130 million. the sector witnessed a fall of at least 20% in its sales to Japan due to the outbreak of COVID-19. This pushed the suppliers to find different alternatives to sales like markets in China and the domestic markets. Usually, 6,165 tonnes of Australian quota of southern bluefin has been fattened in holding pens off Port Lincoln and exported as whole fish to Japanese buyers.
