On 21 December 2020, the World Organization for Animal Health approved the self-declaration of African Swine Fever (ASF) free status in all pigs (domestic swine, wild and captive boars) presented by Belgium on 27 October and will soon be officially published on the OIE website

This recovery of free status confirms, this time worldwide, the official eradication of the disease from Belgian territory and will facilitate the international trade in meat and other pork products. The recovery of this free status internationally will allow to relaunch negotiations with Third Countries that imposed an embargo on Belgian pork.
