According to the Phnom Penh Post Chinese General Administration of Customs is conducting a remote risk assessment of Cambodia's Longan via the Internet. Cambodian longan is usually exported to Thailand, repackaged and mixed with Thai Longan for sale in China. Pailin Longan is mainly grown in Pailin and Battambang provinces of Cambodia. Up to now, the total planting area is 14,500 hectares, and mass production area is 11,500 hectares, with annual output of 200,000 MT.
Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture stated that the assessment was carried out at the Longan treatment and packaging plant in Pailin province, as well as at selected plantations. There is currently only one longan treatment and packaging plant in Bailing province, which uses a steam heat treatment system to disinfect longan and eliminate pests. They have alerted local plantations and packaging plants to apply for licenses to export longan to China in time.
According to the previous news, Cambodia longan is expected to complete the admission by the end of this year, becoming the third Cambodian fruit to be officially exported directly to China after bananas and mangoes.
