Consumer prices at retail are expected to increase by 3-5% in 2021 with bread, meat, and vegetable prices leading the way. Meat prices are expected to rise by as much as 6.5% as a result of additional safety measures being required for COVID. Climate change is the leading cause of the anticipated 6.5% increase in vegetable prices as Canada imports a large portion of produce from California which was ravaged by wildfires. Increased wheat prices based on global demand are the cause of the expected increase in bread prices domestically.
