Cartagena's Green Plantain Prices Skyrocket Amidst Regional Supply Shift

In the Bazurto market of Cartagena, green plantain prices surged by 28% week-on-week (WoW) to USD 0.53 per kilogram (kg) in W17. This is driven primarily by a supply shortfall from the Cordoba department. A larger share of Cordoba's plantain harvest has been redirected to other regional markets, tightening availability in Cartagena and exerting upward pressure on prices. Moreover, recent logistical challenges and rising transportation costs have further constrained timely deliveries to Cartagena, amplifying the supply imbalance and price escalation.
