Chilean Salmon Farming Centers Grapple With Harmful Algal Blooms in Nov-23

In Chile, as of November 17, the accumulated mortality in salmon farming centers affected by Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) amounted to 1,140 metric tons (mt), representing 1.4% of the total biomass of Coho and Trout species in the two affected groups. There are a total of 18 farming centers with activated contingency plans for HAB. Additionally, seven centers have contingency plans activated for mass mortality. The total biomass in the water for ACS 1 and 2 is reported to be 79,727 mt of salmon.
