In Pakistan, Kinnow citrus dominates fruit production with an annual production of 2.4 million metric tons (mmt). The flowering and fruit setting (pollination) has been done in the month of March and April every year after the conclusion of last season's fruit crop. This season during April, a heat wave of 25 days affected the fruit setting of the Citrus crop. In the month of May, the temperature returned to normal. However, in the months of June-August, a monsoon affected the crop negatively. Despite the challenges of heat waves and heavy rains, the production forecast shows a 60% increase from expectations. However, there is also a possibility of a 40% decline due to the impact of the weather.
Exporters are preparing for the upcoming season (Dec-22 to Apr-23), are predicting that the cost of the finished product will be more than in 2021, and are worried about the cost of competitiveness in the importing market.
