Exporters and Abrafrutas associates (Brazilian Association of Productores and Exportadores) had discussions in W48 with Chilean players to discuss the quality required in Chile for papaya exports. The aim is to understand demand and focus on quality to open up the Chilean market to Brazilian papaya. Among the topics discussed were the quality, maturation, and calibers that Brazilian papaya will need to be imported into Chile. The action is taking place in partnership between exporters, Abrafrutas, the Brazilian association of papaya producers and exporters, and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). Brazilian papaya still does not have space on Chilean shelves, but in May of 2022, auditors from the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile made technical visits to production areas in Espirito Santo to verify papaya phytosanitary control. The state of Espírito Santo is the largest producer and exporter of papaya in Brazil, with authorization to export to Europe, the USA, and other countries in South America.
