Summer mortality in cockles due to high temperature and blooms of green macroalgae

Late summer mortalities of cockles have occurred in one of the main prodicing areas in Portugal (Ria Formosa Lagoon), due to high temperature and blooms of green macroalgae on the bottom of the lagoon (natural habitat of cockles). It has been reported that the supply is far lower than expected.
