Turkey’s Aquaculture Exports Surge 7% YoY With Tuna Showing the Largest Increase of 43%

From Jan-22 to Jun-22, the Turkey's aquaculture export volume stood at 117 thousand metric tons (mt), a figure that swelled to 125 thousand mt in the same period of 2023, marking a 7% YoY surge.

Sea Bass emerged as the predominant fish species in terms of export volume, commanding a substantial USD 263 million in revenue. Similarly, the export of Sea Bream increased by 10% from USD 195 million to USD 215.7 million. These shifts unveil the evolving preferences in global markets and Turkey's adeptness in aligning with these trends.

Turkish Salmon, a focal point in recent years for markets seeking alternative salmon sources, experienced a substantial 34% rise from USD 115.7 million to an impressive USD 154.7 million. This upswing underlines the nation's strategic focus on leveraging its strengths and capitalizing on growing demand for specific species.

Trout exports also demonstrated a noteworthy surge, rising by 18% from USD 49.5 million to a commendable USD 58.5 million. Meanwhile, the robust 43% increase in tuna exports, from USD 28 million to USD 40 million, is a standout feature, signifying a strategic shift in Turkey's export portfolio.
