Tanzania being the third-largest avocado producer in Africa after South Africa and Kenya, Tanzanian farmers have primarily failed to access the export market for their produce due to quarantine pests in the country. India's open markets are a massive market for the local avocado industry since India opens doors to many smallholder farmers to reach international consumers instead of the crowded domestic market.
Tanzania produces about 40,000 MT of export standard avocados, but only 9,500 MT are exported annually.

The second consignment of the fresh produce has been exported to India, making 2.2 MT of fresh avocado shipped to India through air freight.
