Tea farmers in Nandi County, Kenya have called upon the Government to regulate the use of tea harvesting machines which has gradually been introduced by multinational companies in the region since 2013. The high cost of tea production in Kenya and high wage bills forced companies to adopt new technologies, such as tea harvesting machines, to cut operational costs and remain profitable. According to producers, the use of harvesting machines has compromised the quality of Kenyan tea and negatively affected its prices in the global market. This may negatively affect tea prices in Mombasa.
