Bangladesh farmers are losing interest in sunflower cultivation due to the lack of a good marketing network. The local farmers are forced to sell their seeds to seasonal dealers at low prices due to the lack of seed purchasers at the grassroots level, forcing them to abandon their crops.
Previously, sunflower cultivation gave hope of better economic prospects and provision of healthy edible oil to the general public. Sunflower seeds, high in saturated fats and vitamin E, can be pressed to make edible oil. And sunflower oil is typically sold as a premium product in supermarkets.
