Fish and shrimp farming production registered high in Brazil in 2019

according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the fish farming industry increased by 1.7% and totalled 529.6 thousand tons in 2019. The largest fish producing state was Paraná, which accounted for 23.9% of the national total. The largest fish farm in the country is located in the Nova Aurora region of the municipality. The largest production was of the tilapia variety (61.1%) and Tambaqui (19.1%). The production of shrimp in captivity also grew, registering an increase of 18.8% compared to 2018. A total of approximately 54.3 thousand tons. Crustacean production in Brazil was hampered by the Macha Branca virus in 2016-2017. This brought down national production. The leading region in production is the Northeast with 99.6% of national production, with emphasis on Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará.
