The fishing complex is expected to reach exports of USD 1.3 Billion by the end of the year thus contributing to USD 100M in terms of export withholdings. So far, until September 2019, it has exported products for USD 1,127M.

Given the global pandemic context, numbers are not all so bad, nevertheless, in 2018 and because of the boom in shrimp sales, seafood exports reached USD 2,155M. During the first 9 months of 2020, whole shrimp exports, whose main market is Spain, and tails, mostly destined for China, totaled USD 531M, which implies a 26% drop compared to U$D 716M achieved in the same period of 2019.

The industry’s “savior” for this 9-month period was the Argentine Squid, adding an astonishing volume of USD 308M compared to USD 207M in 2019 (about 84% increase)

The Argentine Hake (considering its different processed styles) had a drop in exports of USD 50M comparing Jan-Sep 2020 vs Jan-Sep 2019 (USD 165M vs USD 215M). Catches were acceptable, there is a good biomass volume, but international prices went from USD 2.8K/ton to USD 2.4K/ton. This price level makes the “fresqueros” fleet (ships that bring their catch for processing in land plants) unable to compete.
