Semmaris, the organization managing the Rungis international market, just published its 2021 annual report. The Ile-de-France wholesale market posted a turnover of just over EUR 10 billion for all categories. The fruit and vegetable sector remains a leader in Rungis with EUR 4.55 billion (USD 4.76 billion) compared to EUR 4.40 billion (USD 4.60 billion) in 2020. Further proof of the dynamism the number of companies increased from 342 companies in 2020 to 376 companies in 2021, a 10% increase. In terms of employees in fruits and vegetables, it increases from 3,919 to 4,039, increased by 3%. Banana remains the most popular product of the year and volumes continue to grow, +14% increase compared to 2020. Red fruits also have performed well in 2022 with a 9% increase in arrivals compared to 2020. On the vegetable side, the French tomato has increased by 10% between 2020 and 2021 and is found on the 1st step of the podium for vegetable arrivals.
