Fruit Loss in Olive Orchards Due to a Sudden Thunderstorm in the Kalamata Area, Greece

Hail and a strong southern wind in W47 caused fruit to drop in the olive orchards of the PDO Kalamata area in Greece. The sudden thunderstorm hit the area days after the official start of the olive season in PDO Kalamata. Growers reported 15-20% fruit drop as well as deterioration of the fruit that is still on the trees, just a month before the harvest ends. The sudden thunderstorms are forecast to continue for the next two weeks.
