Greek kiwi exporters are gradually raising prices with this trend expected to continue for the remainder of the export season. So far, price increases are higher than ever, with 10% for sizes 36 and 39 and 20% for the limited 25/27/30 sizes available due to high production costs. The 15th of February is regarded as a critical moment for the season when Italian exporters negotiate the spring delivery program.
Italy is expected to provide the European market with sell-off prices and not provide kiwis for export outside of Europe, where competition from Greece yields small profits. The big Greek exporters are pushing prices up since smaller exporting schemes are out of stock as the market waits for Italy's response to speed up sales to Europe. Lastly, all sectors await the meeting with New Zealand representatives in Berlin to figure out when New Zealand produce will hit the market and their prediction for 2023.
