In January 2022, the export value of coffee was USD 73.1M, an increase of 81% compared to USD 40.4M in January 2021. The main reason for this value increase was the prices of arabica coffee futures contracts, around USD 2.40 per pound in Jan 2022. During February and March, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine caused a decrease in prices for a potential lower consumption of European countries. However, prices are still around USD 2.20 per pound. The Guatemala coffee sector expects prices to maintain above USD 2 per pound; if that happens, the coffee export value might reach USD 1 billion during 2022.
