The avocado market in Europe began to recover little by little in W41, after the second wave of shipments from Peru, which was characterised by a high percentage of large fruit. The recovery was partly due to a more active rotation of stocks driven by several supermarkets in France deciding to change the size of the fruit they buy, from 16/18 to 14 and even size 12. This allowed the activation of promotions that boosted sales, alleviating the oversupply situation. Now that Peru is nearing the end of its season, prices have remained stable, and are even trading slightly higher.
The values observed in the market are around USD 10.82/4kg box (EUR 11) for large sizes, while in some cases they exceed USD 11.81/4kg (EUR 12.00) for medium and small sizes, depending on the origin. Baby avocados are offered for around EUR 2.5/kg (sizes 28 to 32), although it could vary because Colombia mainly exports these sizes to the detriment of larger fruit, which could generate an oversupply of large fruit.
