Imported apples account for 26% of Brazilian overall consumption, comprised of Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala and Fuji varieties. Since the Brazilian production of Red Delicious is almost null, it is by far the main imported variety with 70% share among all other grades. Chile, Argentina and Italy are the main sourcing countries. However, this year some importers are struggling to meet their order requests since Chile concluded their harvest a month ago and many of their producers are claiming not having availability of supply. A Brazilian wholesaler is ready to close a full truck for prompt delivery, but the task seems to be far from completion.
