Increase of Herring Catch During February in Hokkaido, Japan

In Hokkaido, Japan, herring gillnet fishing has been good. The Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry reported that as of February 10, the total catch was 786 tons, double compared of the same period in 2022. In mid-February, herring catch continued to grow, and peak fishing season will be from February to March. The total catch in the main production area was 454 tons, 229 tons by Otaru, and 87 tons by Yoichi County. As of February 19, the estimated catches in the Ishikari-Shiribeshi area reached 1.4K tons, a 30% increase from the same period in 2022.
