Kenyan cassava prices have been rising since 2021 due to low supply and high demand. In 2022, the fresh cassava price stood at USD 0.04/kg, which tripled to USD 0.12/kg in 2023. Dried cassava prices have also increased from USD 0.31/kg to USD 0.51/kg. This is mainly due to the low supply caused by the drought, which affected production and harvesting, as well as high maize and wheat prices. As a result, consumers are forced to seek alternatives to maize and wheat, causing the demand for cassava to increase, hence the rise in prices.
