India’s Rabi Sowing in 2022 Declined by 27.3% Compared to 2021

The sowing of the rabi crop in India decreased by 27.3% in the 2022 season compared to the 2021 season as a result of heavy rains, which reduced the income of farmers. As of November 18, pulse sowing decreased by 3.72% YoY from 7.6M ha in 2021 to 7.32M ha in 2022. This year, chickpeas saw a decline in sowing area from 5.28M ha in 2021 to 5.26M ha, followed by masoor, which saw a decline from 885,000ha in 2021 to 819,000ha in 2022. Matar's sowing area also decreased YoY from 658,000ha to 511,000ha, followed by urad, from 199,000ha to 187,000ha, moong from 35,000ha to 24,000ha, and other pulses from 123,000 ha to 117,000ha.
