Indonesian fresh fruit exporters have expressed concerns over the limited availability of direct cargo flights to key Chinese cities, notably Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. As of W33, only three airlines, including two local carriers and one Chinese airline, provide direct flights to these destinations. This scarcity of flight options has led to intense competition for cargo space among fresh fruit and seafood exporters. The preference for direct flights is driven by the desire to uphold the quality of fresh fruits. Exporters have observed a higher risk of product damage when using transit flights. As export volumes continue to rise, exporters are optimistic that the frequency of direct cargo flights will be increased to accommodate demand and ensure product quality.
