Private entities will be allowed to import Indian buffalo meat in the near future, which is expected to further help the government with matters related to the national meat stock fulfilment and price stabilization. Previously, only state-owned companies had a license to import, with the majority of the quota belonging to a single Indonesian public company that focuses on food logistics and strategic food commodities. Even though the government has issued the regulations at presidential-level (PP no. 11 2022) and ministerial-level that cover detailed guidelines for importation requirements (Permendag No. 25 2022), several meat importers are still uncertain about when they will start the application process.
