Africa is one of the emerging markets with the strongest appeal for Italy after the Middle East and the Far East due to the dynamism of the markets and steady rise in population. In 2021, the Italian market recorded a total turnover of USD 18.61B. The main export markets for Made in Italy are South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya. In Italy, the Lombardy region leads exports, followed by Sardinia, Sicily, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, and Veneto. The highest increase for Made in Italy imports in 2022 is expected in Central Asia by 15.5% and in North Africa by 9.2%, driven by demographic growth. According to estimates, by 2030, the area of North Africa alone (and the Middle East) will see the entry into the middle class of about 100M people, that could be capable of generating a turnover for consumption equal to the current Italian GDP.
