Even in mid-January 2023, when businesses are already back to normal after the new year holiday, there is still a low demand for imported lemon in Japan even though it is currently available in from US and Turkey. It is because of many factors, such as inflation partly caused by a weak Japanese Yen or Covid-19 concerns restricting eating out. This tendency is present regardless of the industry or customer base, and customers are encouraged to limit the number of their frequent purchases to what is strictly necessary to prevent overstock on their own. Importers are now worried that certain recent shipments could result in surplus inventories, which could result in quality problems from unnecessarily increased storage times.
