The shortage of local banana in the local Moroccan market is pushing many exporters and traders of fruit to instruct haulage companies shipping watermelon and melon to Spain to bring back banana. This helps also make some economies of scale on the cost of the imported banana sold at an average retail price of USD 1.40 per kg whereas the retail price of the local product is set at USD 1.10 per kg.
