New Zealand's red meat sector earned USD 6.29B in export revenue for the financial year-end June 30 2022, with China leading the list at USD 4 billion (36.4%), followed by North America at USD 2.6 billion (23.6%). Beef accounted for USD 2.63 billion (41.8%) of total meat export revenue, sheep meat for USD 2.46 billion (39.1%) and co-products for USD 1.2 billion (19.1%). There is a 20% increase in meat exports YoY, despite processors not maximizing the value and volume of meat production. High global prices and a favorable NZ dollar compensated for lower volumes and processing constraints. New Zealand meat is currently exported to 108 different countries, as consumers demand higher standards of environmental care and sustainable products with more focus on brand behavior and packaging.
