The Alaska Pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) is a fish that is in high demand in the European and North American markets. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, sanctions have restricted the supply of Russian origin pollock. Consequently, its supply and price have become very inconsistent in Europe. Portuguese buyers are receiving pollock every 2 months from Alaska but the supply is very short, at a price of USD 4.00/kg (CIF) skinless and PBO (pin bones out) fillets (block frozen). As winter arrives in the main fishing areas of Alaska, such as the Bering Sea or Alaska Gulf, the bad weather will be more common and the supply will naturally decrease and the price will likely increase.
