The Ministry of Agriculture of Peru launches innovation projects in seeds and livestock to improve competitiveness of more than 160 thousand small farmers.

For this program, the total amount of investment of INIA-MIDAGRI amounts to US$ 26.8 million, which will serve to promote the generation of technologies in crops of grasses, legumes, cereals and promising crops, for the benefit of farmers in the regions of Junín, Ayacucho, Cusco, Puno, Apurímac, Arequipa, Cajamarca and Lambayeque.

Likewise, INIA will have more than US$ 4.3 million destined to the generation of high quality genetic material in cattle and strengthening of genetic nuclei, for the benefit of more than 60 thousand producers from Puno, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Pasco, Ancash, San Martín and Lima.

In the highlands and jungle of Peru there is a gap of 1.7 million hectares (87%) that are not sown with quality seeds, and affect two million producers. One strategy to achieve this is to access and use quality seeds that support better harvests.

As part of the strategies to promote agricultural production, INIA carried out the release of the new variety of high quality quinoa called INIA 438-ACOLLINA which, due to its characteristics, will improve the farmer's profitability by approximately 180%.

In addition, it has a good quality of grain, making it resistant to the main pests, providing optimum productivity per hectare of 1.7 tons, surpassing the existing ones that are an average of 1.4 tons.
