Philippines suspends import ban on poultry from Brazil

The Philippines, on Monday, lifted its ban on poultry imports from Brazil after the Brazilian government introduced coronavirus prevention measures, the Philippine Department of Agriculture said.

The Southeast Asian country, however, will require that poultry products from Brazil - its third-largest source of chicken imports in July - have labels stating that they have been handled in facilities with strict hygiene and sanitation measures, according to a memorandum issued by the Philippines agency. Shipments that do not meet these conditions will be confiscated, he added.

The Philippines imposed the ban in mid-August, following China's statement that a sample of Brazil's chicken wing surface tested positive for coronavirus. Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture said the Manila decision was "disproportionate"
