It is a period of Mhon Thong durian gradually launched into the market. However, traders have to check the maturity of the durian carefully. Thailand has faced abnormal weather; cold weather with a strong wind in Northern, Northeastern, Eastern, Western, and Central and Strong falling rain and strong wind in Southern, directly impacting Mhon Thong tree.
Both premature fruits and matured fruits fall on the ground on some farms named "Wind Durian." Durians damaged by wind are lower than conventional ones, as there are cracks and bruises. The worst case is that some growers try to sell durians or "Young Durians" to "Lhong; purchase point prematurely."
On 2 April, some middlemen tried to convince "Lhong" to buy 3/mt of premature "Mhon Thong" that have expected as "Wind Durians." Fortunately, DOA officers in Chantaburi province, home of durians, had informed Lhong about their responsibility in case they bought these "Wind Durians" and "Young Durians" then these durians have not passed the "Dry weight percentage test."
Calculation of dry weight of durian:
There are criteria for each durian fruit as follows: (1) Kra Doom Thong : minimum dry weight 27% (2) Cha Nee: minimum dry weight of 30 %. (3) Mon Thong : minimum dry weight 32% (4) Puang Manee: minimum 30% dry weight.
Methods for analyzing weight of the dry pulp of durian. (1) Take the durian fruit and cut the pulp of each fruit into three lobes, randomly from only the central lobe. (2) Take the durian flesh that has been cut into small pieces about 1x1x5 mm, then well mix and randomly weigh into containers of 20 g per fruit. (3) To be dried at a temperature of 700 C (degrees Celsius) for 48 hours or until stable dry weight.
Then calculate the dry weight value from the formula as follows: Dried weight of durian (%) = (weight after baking/ Weight before baking)X 100 Note: refer to Thailand Agricultural Standard for durian; TAS 3-2013.
