Problems with Avian flu may result in higher price for poultry

The 100th avian flu case for the 2021/22 season was confirmed by DEFRA at a farm near Redgrave, on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, on 1 March. Consequently, 35,000 ducks will have to be culled to stop the spread of the virus. Outbreaks of H5N1 have also been found recently in Essex and Norfolk, and Suffolk. According to some estimations, already by January, about 1m birds had been culled in Lincolnshire alone. Considering these losses in production in combination with rising costs for such basic inputs like forage and fuel, it is reasonable to expect that prices for poultry will go up.
