Recent intense rainfalls have impacted the Mexico's Persian Lime production (mostly in the state of Veracruz). While such raining conditions have increased production volume in the orchards of Veracruz, overall quality of the fruit has decreased for the same reason. Lower quality can be seen in terms of color, skin thickness (thinner), and bigger sizes are predominantly present when harvesting. For this reason, Veracruz-based lime producers have had difficulties producing and shipping limes to countries with stringent quality control on produce such as Korea, Japan, China, or regions such as Europe. The affected growers are expecting that the "young orchards" yield production in around two weeks, since the "old orchards" are the most susceptible to rain regarding quality issues. Once producers start cutting from "young orchards", quality will increase significantly and producers will be able to attend stricter quality markets, which will drive selling prices downwards because of increased production of high quality limes.
