Ethiopia set a new record for coffee bean exports with USD 1.4B from 2021/22. This creates a new reality in the coffee industry as farmers get double the price for red-cherry coffee in 2022 compared to 2021. W41 red cherry coffee prices in the Djimma, Illubabor, and Keffa regions of western Ethiopia started at USD 0.95/kg, and the final green bean, which was made up of 5kg of red cherry coffee, was priced at USD 5.18/kg. The price for red cherry coffee in the southern region, which includes Sidamo, Yirgacheffe, and Guji, started at USD 1.13/kg, and the final green bean, which was made up of 5kg of red cherry coffee, was priced at USD 6.4/kg.
