For this harvest season of 2022–23, which began in October 2022 and will end in January 2023, the production of Indian Arabica coffee will decline by 30%, and that of Indian Robusta coffee will drop by 20% as a result of 2022's prolonged/extended monsoon rainfalls. Early blossom showers in February of 2022 meant that the crop was ready for harvest in October 2022 rather than November 2022. However, due to the unforeseen persistence of rainfall in October, the coffee cherries dropped off the plant even before they were collected. The cost of producing coffee has also been increasing each year as a result of increased labor and material expenses. The cost of producing arabica coffee increased this 2022 from USD 677.05/acre (INR 55K/acre) to USD 1,046.35/acre (INR 85K/acre). Likewise, Robusta coffee production cost doubled from USD 369.30/acre (INR 30K/acre)to USD 738.60/acre (INR 60K/acre). Prices for this harvest cycle are predicted to be on the higher side due to the aforementioned factors.
