The average hazelnut yield in Turkish orchards is recently below 100 kg per decare*. In hazelnut orchards on sloping lands with low soil depth and low water holding capacity, the plants cannot benefit from sufficient fertilizer, water, and light. Besides, the lack of adequate pollinator varieties in the gardens also deteriorates fertilization and fruit formation.

For this reason, in 2021, the 'Rehabilitation of Hazelnut Orchards Project' was launched by the Turkish Agriculture Ministry. It was implemented in the provinces of Ordu, Giresun, and Trabzon, where the hazelnut production is intense. The project aims to get an average of 100-150 kg more product per decare in the renovated hazelnut orchards. Shortly, the competitiveness of the Turkish hazelnut industry, the sustainability of hazelnut agriculture, and an increase in profitability are expected to be achieved by the implementation of the project.
