The Ugandan government, with the support of the Chinese government under the South-South Cooperation Framework, is implementing rice value chain development in the Butaleja district in eastern Uganda. This collaboration will see an increase in the quantity and quality of rice produced in the region. Since rice is a significant staple food in Uganda, domestic demand for it is high and far exceeds domestic supply, making Uganda a net importer of rice. With the help of the South-South Cooperation Framework, Uganda will narrow the market's present supply gap and decrease its reliance on imported rice.
