Russian farmers expect a larger sunflower crop in 2022 due to an increase in the sunflower sowing area all over Russia, combined with generally favorable weather conditions. According to forecasts by The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR), the sunflower seed harvest in Russia is expected to be at least 16MMT, and most likely even higher, which is at minimum a 500,000mt increase compared to the 15.5MMT harvested in 2021.

At the same time, Russian sunflower processors expect possible price decreases for sunflower seeds this autumn as the expected record harvest is accompanied by record carry-over stocks of 1MMT from the 2021 harvest caused by the export restriction of sunflower seed from Russia.
